The 14th edition of BOBMC Rider Mania at Nagpur saw many women riders participating in the event. Back in 2003, the year the first ever BOBMC Rider Mania was held at Goa, we had only one woman who rode to the event, that’s right just ONE! That my friend is Nicky to you.
Meet Nicolitta Pereira a.k.a Nicky who is a fashion consultant and a diehard Bulleteer. Nicky’s roots lie in Goa but she was born and brought up in Mumbai. She rides a Standard 500 (CI) and has one more Bullet 350 (CI) parked in her garage. Nicky has been part of the club 60 kph. Nicky’s journey as a rider began with a beat up bullet which her brother borrowed from a friend, on which she learnt riding.
Nicky’s first long ride was from Mumbai to Goa covering 600 kms. With this longish ride done, she set off to the mountains with a group of riders and did a Mumbai – Ladakh – Mumbai ride. She was the only female rider among the group and she recalls how many people thought she was crazy to be riding a Bullet all the way to Khardungla top. She was shivering for most part of the ride as she only had basic riding gear. After this, she rode through the most remote lands of North East and did may more memorable rides across Rajasthan, Rann of Kutch, West coast, Kanyakumari and East coast.
Coming back to the first Rider Mania, Nicky recalls it was not as huge as it is today. There were not many sponsors or events, it was just a couple of friends hanging around and chilling together. Nicky won the “Female Rider of the Year” award at Goa, and she still has the trophy with her.
